Established in 1991, Lakeview
Cellars is one of Niagara's first small cottage
wineries, located on 13 acres along the "Beamsville
Bench" area of the Niagara Escarpment. As it
celebrates 13 years of distinction in 2004, Lakeview
Cellars continues to move forward with momentum.
As it grows, it strives to
maintain its "small winery" ambiance, a friend to
all who appreciate quality wine and the neighborly
approach of its beautiful country setting.

Voted "Best Vineyard Tour" by
Vines Magazine! Tours at Lakeview Cellars are
conducted in the vineyard, rather than the
production/bottling area. Groups of various sizes
are lead through the vines by one of our experienced
wine consultants, who will provide patrons with an
informal and in-depth seminar on topics such as the
winery's history, terroir, canopy management and
various other vineyard practices that effect the
flavors and style of the wines produced.
Questions are welcomed and
encouraged at any point during the tour. In
addition, four VQA wines will be sampled alongside
the specific vines that produced them from our
estate vineyard. Tours usually last for about ½ an
hour to an hour, and are only available, weather
permitting during the warmer seasons. Minimum 15
people.
The price for a vineyard tour is
$5.00 per person plus GST, by reservation only.
Maximum 30 people. The preceding restrictions do not
apply to special bookings that are made with our
retail manager. |

Birchwood's vineyards
include vines that are over 15 years old and we
produce wines from both vinifera and hybrid grape
varietals. The soils have a clay base with some
gravel and no irrigation takes place.
At our location, the warm air from Lake Ontario
comes inland and cycles back towards the lake after
having hit the Niagara Escarpment a few kilometres
inland. This gives Birchwood a fairly constant
supply of warmer air, which helps evaporate any
excess moisture and forces the roots to go deeper
into the soil to anchor the vines.
We produce clean and flavorful wines for current
consumption - crisp, fruity, unoaked or lightly
oaked whites and medium to full bodied moderately
oaked reds. We strive to exhibit the great fruit
that goes into our wines.
We are close to the Bruce Trail, the southern
lake Ontario shoreline, the Niagara Heritage Trail
and a number of other eco-tourism destinations, such
as the local fruit and vegetable markets and pick
your own orchards. We are also en route to
picturesque Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake
(home of the Shaw Festival) and Casino Niagara. Be
sure to include a stop at our small, unpretentious
winery when you are planning your Niagara weekend!
Honeymooners are particularly welcome!! |

Angels Gate Winery uses traditional
winemaking techniques combined with new world
technologies to create wines with delicate balance,
finesse and structure All of our wines are treated
with great care and undergo minimum fining and
filtration. This allows us to preserve each
varietals aroma, acidity and structure.
The winery was founded by a group of wine loving
friends on a property that was once owned by the
Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Christian
Charity in Ontario. During the 1950's and 60's the
property had become a mink farm, but when mink fell
out of fashion the property was left abandoned. In
1995, the land was converted into a vineyard.
Construction of the "mission style" building began
in June of 2001. We were greeting our first guests
one year later.
Our state of the art winemaking facility is built
underground, so the earth naturally keeps the
cellars cool. Grape receiving, crushing, and
fermentation occurs in half the underground
facility. Wine is then moved into our French and
American oak barrel rooms. Once the wine is perfect
it is put into bottle so that it may age gracefully.
The Vineyards
All our wines are hand crafted, combining the
harvests of our own Beamsville Bench vineyards, with
that of other growers. Everyone shares the same
belief that winemaking excellence begins with the
highest quality fruit. Our winemaker, Natalie
Spytkowsky watches over the development of the
grapes, ensuring they are picked at peak potential.
Angels Gate maintains two separate vineyards. Angels
Gate Estate Vineyard located adjacent to the Winery,
is composed of 10 acres of vinifera, Cabernet Franc,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.
Angels Gate Vineyards, located 5 kilometers from the
winery, with 25 acres of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling
and Shiraz. |
