Where can you hug two dozen bunnies, pet a sheep, visit with a thousand pound pig, picnic and hike, enjoy a farm museum, or just sit down and watch horses kick up their heels in a lush pasture overlooking beautiful Sodus Bay? Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven at Alasa Farms, a registered non-profit farm haven in Alton, New York is a special place that has something for the entire family year ‘round. Staffed entirely by volunteers, it's a unique place in Wayne County where farm animals of every kind can come to recover from illness, neglect or abuse, to learn they still have friends and family after abandonment, or just to find new people when their families can no longer care for them.
Visitors and tours are always welcome at the farm, which is located at historic Alasa Farms, a turn of the century Shaker community which features magnificent Shaker barns, a museum, and the original Shaker Dwelling House. We welcome visitors and tours; you can take a hike on our nature trail, browse through our gift shop (it has a special Kids Room for little shoppers!), go for a hayride, or bring your family for an apple “pick and picnic” day. Visit with our over 100 farm animals, most of whom are eligible for adoption to appropriate homes. We have lovable rabbits, goats, sheep, geese and ducks, roosters, potbelly and farm pigs, horses and ponies. For those interested in spending more time at the farm, volunteers are always needed and welcomed; training sessions are conducted on a regular basis.
Upcoming events: Clambake on September 10; an Antique Tractor Show on September 17; Apple Pick & Picnic runs throughout September and October; An Octoberfest sponsored by the Red Cross on October 1; our Fall Extravaganza is on October 22; and our Blue Moose Silent Auction dinner and fundraiser on November 19.
We're located on Shaker Road in Alton, NY, just off Route 104 mid-way between Rochester and Syracuse. For more info visit www.crackerboxpalace.org, call 315-483-2493, or e-mail crackerbpalace@netzero.net.
Hop on over after your ride on the Fast Ferry; we'd love ewe to visit!
